Hands on the Hillside: A Smallholder Coffee from Shyira, Rwanda

Hands on the Hillside: A Smallholder Coffee from Shyira, Rwanda
From the Shyira washing station in Rwanda, this anoxic washed coffee is grown at a remarkable elevation of around 2,000 to 2,400 metres above sea level. In Rwanda, a cup of coffee is rarely just about flavour. Behind it are countless hands that have laboured for years on the land. From harvesting to hand-sorting, from processing to drying, women have long been among the most important—yet often overlooked—forces in coffee production. This coffee is not only about its bright, clean cup profile. It is also about the people on those mountain slopes: the quiet hands that sustain the land, the harvest, and the lives built around it.
